As this is just an explanation of my character’s powers, your energy manipulators do not have to go by the same rules as mine. (Warning: It’s a little OP and due for a nerf somehow.)
So, we all know Nexus’s magic is a little confusing. It’s complexity and versatility was not really what I was going for when I created him, but as the character developed, so did his powers. There was nothing I could do to keep it simple, as more situations arose where I realized what could be done- that doesn’t mean I made up new quirks to fit every situation, but that the quirks that grew from it made logical sense to coincide with the basic power I had in my head.
Now, to start, I need to explain the power in the most basic form. Imagine a stamina bar: every character has one, but only energy manipulators understand that it’s there. This stamina bar is the limit to everything you can do. Physical activity drains your stamina- but you might say that magic doesn’t. Instead of a stamina bar, imagine an energy bar. Physical activity still drains your energy, but the mental toll of casting magic also does too. My form of “energy” is energy held within the body, and with any decrease in your character’s energy bar, energy is released from your character’s body in particles. These particles are what energy manipulators control and use.
Every character has a different energy signature- that is, the specific “feeling” Nexus gets when he comes into contact with your character’s energy particles or attempts to sense them. Nexus has a basic energy sense in an area of effect around him: his own energy signature defines the dimensions of this area. His expanded sense allows him to feel the energy signatures of everyone within a certain area. Though there are no specific dimensions for this area, it is not infinite. It’s really up to the character in question. As everyone has an energy signature, it’s difficult to sense specific signatures within a large group of people unless Nexus has been around that signature for a time. (Example: Sensing Kidara within a group of about 70 people would be easy, while sensing an energy signature Nexus has felt twice would be very difficult if the source was in the same group of people.) Very large groups of people can also overload his senses, forcing him to turn off any energy sensors he has, as well as be caustic to his senses.
Moving on to manipulation. Basic manipulation allows the manipulator to control his or her own energy particles, allowing the manipulator to make the energy construct palpable or intangible, while also allowing them to make it solid, “liquid,” or gaseous, as well as opaque or transparent. Gaseous energy has little use aside from being combined with others’ energy to make it controllable by the energy manipulator. Liquid energy is fluid and supple- it can be formed into any shape, with any dimensions, and is generally soft and cushiony. Solid energy has more uses, as the energy is generally palpable and can be formed into many shapes and sizes, and can be used to block attacks. Constructing things from energy cannot be done with merely your character’s expended energy particles alone. They require the most “pure” form of energy they can get from within themselves, which requires draining the energy bar directly. Bigger constructs require more energy; smallers constructs require less.
The destruction of energy constructs depends on the “level” of the manipulator and the strength of the attack that hits whatever construct is blocking it. Say Nexus creates a planar barrier to deflect a powerful laser. Essentially, he could do it, though over time the barrage on the barrier would cause it to crack and chip away, and eventually shatter. In addition to this, certain energies like Rhythm’s released energy’s nature is caustic to Nexus’s constructs and signature. Creating a planar barrier within Rhythm’s energy field would cause it to slowly degrade as if eaten away by acid.
Intermediate energy manipulation involves bursts and infusion. Energy can be expelled rapidly from any extremity in a burst. Bursts of energy can be used offensively, defensively and evasively. As the burst has a mass and velocity, it has force, which is what makes it a quick offensive attack. Defensively, a burst of energy can deflect a projectile off its intended course. Bursts can also propel your character, increasing their velocity. (See Newton’s 3rd Law) Evasive bursts require much more energy than their offensive/defensive counterparts, though, as the amount required needs to be able to move your character: heavier characters would therefore require more energy to move.
Now, infusion is more complicated. By “infusion” I mean the condensation of energy in a specific part of the body or an object. For example, Nexus’s sword (which broke due to an overload) and his current bracelet/caestus weapon are infused objects. Energy can be stored in the bracelets, causing them to morph into the caestus, and then be absorbed from the caestus, causing them to revert to their original state. Nexus’s sword was more a catalyst that enhanced his abilities and also absorbed “dirty” expended energy Nexus released, purified it, and made it available for use. Condensing energy into a body part is different: it enhances the abilities of that specific body part. (Example: legs = high jump, arms = enhanced strength, high powered punch.)
Advanced energy manipulation involves the expansion of energy manipulation to involve other powers and abilities, as well as being able to absorb/control/interact with others’ energies. Nexus’s spirit energy is a great example of this, as his ability to interact with spirits merges with his energy manipulation to form a more powerful form of energy.
Visibly, each different energy has a different look. Where Nexus’s normal energy is a light, transparent blue color, his spirit energy is a lighter, silvery blue color, and his soulpulse energy (magic-silencing) is a dark purple. As Sethos is a different person with different energy, his energy is a shade of green. Different magics, as well, have different colors of energy. Dark magic would obviously have a dark colored energy, while light magic would have a lighter coloring. Each energy has a different feel and look, and through this Nexus can tell what magic an individual uses due to the fact that he has traveled and come into contact with many different forms. It is still unique to each individual, but the influence of the person’s power on their energy makes it possible to determine their powers.
Nexus’s soul interaction is relatively self-explanatory, though the inclusion of his energy abilities makes it more complicated. His regular energy hits the body; his spirit energy hits only the soul. Souls are essentially a person’s life force, so robots could not be affected by spirit energy.
Now, flashstepping is something I do not use very often. The idea is that Nexus is moving so quickly that his form is blurred or completely invisible, though moving this fast causes wind as he is displacing air so quickly. Most people would say that I’m copying this from Bleach, but it’s actually the best term for the technique. Nexus’s base speed is also relatively fast, as his entire fighting style focuses on speed.
Hopefully this clears up any confusion with Nexus’s energy manipulation powers. If you still have more questions, feel free to ask in this thread, and I’ll both reply and add the information to the list.
