Long ago, when the world was still young, creatures were still evolving, changing and adapting in this mysterious new world. But among the diverse and dangerous creatures, stood two in particular that were very powerful. The Primordials and Eidolons-- Fast-forward a few thousand years, and all these great, powerful and terrifying creatures have adapted into what the world knows today as Demons and Angels. While today Demons and Angels have opposing views, it was speculated that long ago before they had created their societies, Primordials and Eidolons got along rather well for the most part, acting as guardians for the world.
Primordials were massive, towering beastly, monster-like creatures that could level the land with their strength and size alone. They were conquerors that dared not hesitate on crushing those who opposed them; if they wanted something, they would take it by force. They took many shapes and forms, some even consisting of mostly magic, while others were purely physical. While most were gigantic in size, there were smaller ones that took on various forms. Eidolons on the other hand were more spiritual like creatures of light, and while they were not as towering as their rivals, what they lacked in size, they made up for great magical power. They could create miracles or bring destruction with their great power and could change entire land sides in an instant; either into flourishing lands or decimated wastelands. Eidolons were thought to be more peaceful and more respected than feared, perhaps due to their more human-like form and that they were always portrayed or seen with large angel-like wings.
As far as identification goes, species of Demons and Angles are classified by how genetically close they are to the original ancestors and to which ancestors.

 Over the span of many years, Demons evolved from their Primordial ancestors, gaining and losing traits along the way, the most noticeable one is that about 45 percent of the demon population lost their towering size, and gained more human-like features that made it easier for them to adapt to the ever-growing societies that quickly spread across the surface of the world. Along with this, they gained several different types of traits that gave them the ability to survive in even the harshest environments, whereas before most Demons/Primordials were found in warmer climates. Common traits that demons all share—unless otherwise stated—are tails that typically end in a spade or point, horns, a quicker healing factor, naturally aligned to demonic energies/magics and more partial to generating and manipulating it, and thick bullet-resistant scales—as in, their scales protect them from sharp impacts as well as blunt ones, often lessening the damage taken from blows of either sort. A Demon's life force--like other races--is heavily attuned to their nature, though more volatile. This in turn affects their Mana pool and creates volatile, unrefined magics that most demons possess. While it has no specific element, the powerful but unrefined magic is known as Demonic Energy, and is built into the instincts of the demons to use. It can be refined and tempered more, or even forsaken for the use of other magics. while it can vary depending upon the type of demon, they all share a similar appearance and nature.  There comes a time of period once a year, where demons are driven into a frenzy of madness. This day is known as Hallow Moon, or Hallowed Day. While the moon itself doesn’t actually cause this, it does take on a strange, green hue as the ambient energy causes it to appear this way. The actual cause is a spike of demonic energy from deep within the earth, that becomes prominent in just about every corner of the world, some less than others. Thankfully, demons do outgrow the influence of the spike, but it varies from demon to demon, but it happens somewhere between 30 and 100 years of age, with there being a few outliers. Adversely, there are some that are unable to pull back from the madness and are left in a perpetual state of it. While it’s unknown what actually causes the sudden spike of energy, some demons murmur tales of the last Primordial sleeping deep within the earth, and that the spike comes from his slow beating heart, each spike being a pulse…. It’s just a legend however…
Ragn’Kror Era demons are considered the closest living relatives to the original Primordials containing the most and closest features to their ancestors.Many of them still have prominent physical traits that mimic their ancestors.{NIGHTMARE DEMONS}
Nightmare demons are known for their midnight-blue scales and massive size, coming in at 7 feet at their smallest. They're usually massively huge...massively huge as in “a-giant-monster-attacking-a-city” huge. The always have piercing, green eyes, and often yield an extra eye on the end of their tails, however it’s speculated that it may just be a pattern on their tails. As their name implies, Nightmare demons have the trademark ability to manifest fears and nightmares as powerful, incapacitating illusions and can even cause mass hysteria--and it is shown, the more the influenced target believes the illusion, the more realistic it becomes, even able to cause physical harm. They use this to cripple their enemies and crush them while they're down. Also known for their physical strength, rivaling that of full-blooded breakers. In the recent century, they have learned how to shape their features to match more human-standards, however it’s hard for them to hide their towering size {SCARLET DEMONS}What they lack in size, they make up for in charm. Never seen without a shade of red, be it their horns, skin, hair or eyes, Scarlets are known for their charisma and attractiveness. They are also seen as signs of luck, wealth and fortune, as many Scarlets always seem to hold some form or position of power—that too perhaps inherited from their ancestors. Their trademark ability is enthrallment and enchantment, and they always seem to have a passive aura that makes them amazingly attractive and often easy to approach—and they are well too aware of it, making them cunning and quick-witted folk. However, should they wish, they can turn that alluring charm into a foreboding presence, which makes it easy for them to intimidate others as well. While already humanoid in appearance, they are also said to be able to take on forms that appeal to those they surround themselves with. {BREAKER DEMONS}Breaker Demons are one of the strongest types of demons out there, rivaling Nightmares with their size, the smallest being 6 feet. They are known for their pure physical strength, thick rolling muscles and equally thick and tough skin and scales, the durability of said scales comparable to full-body armor. Their appearances even reflect so, usually having huge horns, large, spiked tails, and large spikes that grow from their shoulders. They are proud of their strength and unlike most demons, their species either always lacks wings, or grow ones disproportionately small compared to their bodies. {MIN DEMONS}Min demons are almost always instantly recognized by their appearance being directly like their ancestor known as” Min’veel,” albeit smaller. They are brightly colored, fur-covered demons that always have striped tails, long, pointed ears, and upwards-pointing, thick horns. They are perhaps one of the smallest demons, their largest size being 5 feet. They typically have very small, clawed feet, large hands, small, smooth snouts, and rather than scales, they have long, but thick fur, that has the same sort of effectiveness as scales do as far as protection goes. As for their abilities, they vary from demon to demon, but most seem to have some sort of elemental-based power. Their ancestor, Min’veel, was known as a trickster, who was said to play tricks on even the gods themselves, and one day played the ultimate trick and then disappeared. To this day, nobody seems to know what that trick was. {DREAM DEMONS (or Dream Imps)}Their true name was lost in a world of dreams only spoken once to it, before being forgotten forever. Due to their abilities and nature, they are commonly referred to as Dream Imps. They are very short creatures, the tallest recorded about 5'3". They have very dark colored scales, from blacks, to dark reds, blues, or purples, but brightly colored patches that form intricate patterns on their bodies, ranging from stripes, to circles, to some that even look like celestial or tribal tattoos. They also have short snouts, brightly colored noses, and bright eyes, with a third eye atop their head. These third eyes are very often, closed for the most part, but are said to be able to see the spirits around them. They have large ears of varying shapes, and long, scaled tails, with the trademark demon spade on the end of them. Some of them can have wings, and they have small antennae on their head that look somewhat like horns, and usually remain still, until they sense a soul. Their true appearance is usually wispy and blurry to others. They are natural masters of illusionary magic, and dreams. They use these to lure beings--Humans and Mythos alike--into a false sense of security, entering their dreams and stealing away their souls. They have the ability to make their bodies a non-physical, magical energy at will, and is the form they use when entering minds, but in physical or non-physical form, they are highly susceptible and sensitive to magic.
Other Points:
* Dream imps have an incredibly strong connection to the spirit and dream worlds. Some say they can even walk among spirits on the spiritual plane. But that’s silly, because if they could, they'd eat them all... right?
* These creatures--Born of flesh, magic, and soul, but were not born or evolved like regular creatures. Instead, they started as a dream. A dream of a god. But, that dream turned into a nightmare, and that nightmare manifested. Fearful of the creature it created, the god cast it out of its world, left to wander the void it had been abandoned if. But it found a way out. Through the dream of a human child.
*They have an incredibly short physical life span of 5-9 years. Yeah, physical. Their soul can persist for up to 3 years within the dreams of people, but will soon be forgotten, and their souls extinguished, dragged back to the void they once called home, as they are unable to rise to heaven, or fall to hell. But, they can prolong their physical life span by consuming souls.
* There are known to be nomadic groups that travel the world and "Soul fast", choosing to simply live out their short physical lives to the fullest. {ONI DEMONS} Coming Soon!
 The second era of demons, which, while still are very close to their ancestors, diverged into many different branches while still all retaining a similar trait; most changes are meta-physical, as they took on traits from the environments around them.{DARKNESS / SHADE DEMONS}Shade demons have created a reputation for themselves, as many in the days of war were known as merciless, and cruel killers that led armies on rampages across the lands. Powerful masters of shadow, Shade demons are naturally aligned to dark and cursed elements, further pushing their infamy. They are semi-physical, being able to fuse, manipulate and teleport between shadows as they please. They can also turn into shadows themselves, becoming intangible as they please and even shapeshift into other shadowy forms, but they are not as invulnerable to physical attacks as Smoke demons are. Much like smoke demons, they can use their shadowy form to slip between small areas and transverse impassible areas, and even carry or trap objects and people within their shadow. However, should they be exposed any sort of light in this form, be it natural or holy, they are in for a world of trouble, as it will quickly start eating away their form. They are identified by always having pitch-black demonic features. (Scales, horns, tails etc.) While violent and vicious behavior is not a hereditary trait and their personalities vary just as much as any other, their past reputation has made even their own demon brethren a bit cautious of them, although they are still accepted with open arms. {SMOKE DEMONS}Smoke demons are considered a close relative to Shade Demons, but don’t carry the same reputation as them, rather considered ‘quirky’ and hard to read. They are almost completely invulnerable to physical attacks and can become intangible smoke at will. They can turn into wisps or puffs of smoke and slide through impassible spaces and narrow cracks, just like normal smoke, and in their physical form, they can contort and bend to impossible angles, being incredibly agile and flexible. They can blind and even choke others with their smoke form.
There are downsides to their almost invulnerable state, however-- they cannot take on this smoke form in the presence of holy light, as it burns them badly, and they lack the thick, hardy scales that demons are known for—but if they were say shot, or sliced, it would hardly matters as it will harmlessly pass through them. They have absolutely no defense against magical attack in this form and must rely purely on their wits to avoid it. Another odd feature of these demons is that they do not appear to have blood or bleed, and that has led to speculations that they are a partially spiritual entity of some sort. To make up for their lack of defense against magic, they have incredible regenerative abilities. If hit by a magic attack, it will either leave them with a hole in their body or missing a limb. From the hole or missing limb, smoke will eventually begin to flow and reform the missing part. If attacked with a light-based magic or weapon however, it can take several days for them to heal. They are known for their quick and fluid movements, and typically have huge, spiny wings, that allow them to fly for long distances, and are easy to hide, along with their other demonic features, as they can simply turn them into smoke. It is also unknown if they retain long-term injuries.
{ELEMENTAL DEMONS}Their ancestors drank the sea, ate the land, consumed the fiery bloods of the earth, wielded the sparks of the sky, slept among the green flora and danced along the stratosphere. These are the elemental demons, who grew to adapt to the elements around them. Wind, Water, Earth, Fire and Lightning are the most common types that show up, but there are indeed divergences (i.e.., pestilence, Metal or Ice). Depending upon whatever element these demons are born of, they always grow an incredible resistance to it, and their features and colors often grow to reflect whatever element they have adapted to. While some are physical, others can grow traits beyond that, such as having arms made of earth. water or magma, growing animal-like features, such as antler-like horns or fish tails and gills, having flowers and plants growing right off their skin, or an aura that causes plants to flourish in their presence, hair made of fire, always generating a cold or warm aura, or having horns and spines made of never-melting ice. These lot are as diverse as they come, and in some cases, can take on two types of elements which often results in some amazing new sort of combination.
 These demons have more than one common ancestor, being a combination of one or many different types, which resulted in a brand-new species.{SIREN DEMONS}Siren demons are not as physically strong as their other relatives, but what they lack in strength, they make up with their trademark ability Their perfect mimicry and lulling voice, which allows them to serenade and calm those around them, to the point where they could say, perhaps lure an unsuspecting person to their demise, but when angered they can get LOUD, like make your ears bleed loud. Their scream can paralyze or even kill and can be heard for miles. They are typically taller than they are big, their height typically not falling below 7 1/2 feet. Not having brute strength, their bodies adapted to have more slicing and cutting abilities, as their wings and tails have razor sharp edges. {AMETRINE DEMONS / AMETHYST ‘ANGELS’}Known as the ‘little sister’ to Scarlets, Ametrine Demons or “Amethyst Angels” are known for their charm, inexplicable beauty and charisma as well, but more importantly, their purple color, their wings, scales, tails and horns, which always have a crystal-like appearance, making them shimmer and shine in the light. They get their name from their wings being similar to that of Chromos Angels, albeit purple in color. While they lack the passive abilities that scarlets have, they have another ability, to grow and manipulate the crystal-like scales and parts on their body into different shapes, forms and structures, even being able to coat their entire bodies in it, and even change their horns to different shapes, sizes and forms if they so wish. However, due to this, they are also known for their shedding cycles, which happen every other month, where they cocoon themselves in crystal, and shed off their old skin—as oppose to some other demons, which shed old scales on a smaller scale, more frequently. They are particularly shiny right after shedding, however they are also more physically vulnerable and sensitive to touch. {CAUSTIC DEMONS}Caustic demons have a few different varieties they come in, but they all have one common factor: Corrosiveness. Caustic Demons have the ability to quickly degrade things due to how acidic their bodily fluids are. While some have incredibly strong stomach acid alone, others can also have acidic sweat, blood, tears and other various fluids, while some are always a tad bit slimy to the touch, said slime being corrosive to anything it touches—which can be a bit unfortunate in most cases, but demon society has created special clothing just for these particular demons, that helps their properties be a bit less harmful to others around them. Another common factor they all share is their bottomless appetites. While demons in general already eat a good bit, these folks could clear out an entire buffet, due to how quickly their body digests and metabolizes food. (And other things they may eat)
 Completely divergent and mixed traces of demons that came about within the last 200 years or so, more adapted to a modern world. They have no one traceable ancestor but have a wide variety of abilities, and due to the amount of abilities always showing up, the category is always growing.
{SOUL DEMONS}Soul Demons are ancient spirits of powerful demons that were strong enough to resist the shock of death. Rather than returning to the cycle like most souls, these demonic souls were able to use their large pools of energy to persist, either repossessing their bodies, eating away the flesh and leaving only bone and their energy manifested as a translucent body around their bones, or forsaking their body altogether and existing merely as a physical manifestation of energy. However, in the later case after many years pass, they tend to need to find another host to keep them sustained, and they can either possess other unwilling creatures and warp their bodies to their liking or reside in a dormant state for countless years within a physical object such as a ring, amulet, artifact or mask. Soul demons can also be parasitic, leeching off the life and soul of other creatures the possess and either take their bodies completely or reside in a sort of equilibrium with the original host. Soul demons, unlike other demons do not reproduce, but only come into existence when a powerful demon resists death. They can often become more powerful by consuming the souls of other creatures to the point where they no longer need a host to sustain themselves--they do also retain all their thoughts, personalities and memories from their life. {SHIFTER DEMONS}Sometimes confused for shapeshifters, Shifter demons have the unique ability to change and shift their bodies to adapt to a situation. While not as versatile as actual shapeshifters, they have the ability to warp parts of their bodies into whatever they need, be it giant blades or huge, fleshy abominations of tentacles and teeth. They're able to change and alter their appearances slightly to look different, or unrecognizable but cannot completely alter their bodies and forms to be someone else like shapeshifters can. Like most demons, they have true forms which are usually very eldritch-looking in appearance as their features are...well, to put it simply, not always where you would expect them to be.
{LIGHT DEMONS}Speculated to be a mutation, Light demons are one of the rarest demons out there, as they only started cropping up within the last 100 years or so. While they can have varied appearances, their trademark ability is that they have the same abilities some angels– partial to manipulating and generating holy energies and magic --but also being able to generate demonic energy too-- healing factors where they can heal others, and their demonic features (horns, tails, scales) always being a shining white color, and it is speculated that they can also cast minor illusions. {LESSER DEMONS}While not actually any lesser than any other demons, this is simply what any other demon that doesn’t fit into any other known category is called, being completely new or different to other demons with various different abilities and appearances. Most still carry all your standard demonic abilities and traits, however.
 These are creatures or demons that are either altered or affected by other traits and may not necessarily be a true relative of a demon. {DEMONIC ANIMALS}Not true demons, but these are animals and other creatures or beings of the sort that have been born of demonic energy either through prolonged exposure, or some sort of ritual. Animals like this tend to be far more intelligent than normal and exhibit magical properties and have shown to generate demonic energy like true demons. {HALLOWED DEMONS}Demons that simply couldn’t pull themselves back from the influence of the Hallow Eve. They have become completely feral, losing all sense of self. In the last 20 years however, there has been significant progress in the research of returning these demons to their normal selves. The few demons that returned seem to have a lower capacity for complex thinking but still did retain traits and memories of their original selves, but seem to be far more animalistic than before. {“HORNED” CREATURES AND OTHER DEMONIC MUTATIONS}On a lesser scale than those born with demonic energy, these are simply beings—humans, fairies, animals, whatever—that are born with horns or other purely physical traits that mimic that of a demon, but do not have any sort of magical or energy properties of demons. Angels specifically however do not include themselves in this category. |

Angels were less seen than their more demonic counterparts, who spread far and wide across the globe, while they remained a bit more secluded, only within the last 100 years or so, opening their selves to the world around them, the newer generations being eager to spread their wings and seek out new places to root in the world. Unlike the demons, they kept more formally documented they are more accurately able to pinpoint precise traits back to one of the last few ancestors they had. Almost every angel has one or more definable trait that puts them in one of the circles belonging to said documented ancestors, and thus, that is how they are classified. {SERAPH}Seraphs are seen as the strongest type of angel and are often respected as figures of authority. They are giant beings, able to tower at heights of 11 feet or so, and always bear multiple sets of wings, being it four, six or even more, another trait is that they do not appear to have irises, their eyes being pure white. They are seen as the higher of angelic society, and some take full advantage of their standings in society, using it to take up positions of power.  {MESSIAH}Messiahs are seen as motherly, caring and tender figures, as they naturally have calming and healing auras that emanate from them, even being in the presence of one is calming and soothing, and even good for you. They are known for their powerful healing abilities, and even their passive healing touch. They can cure and heal curses, physical injuries and even ailments of the soul. They are known for their massive wings, which are soft and fuzzy to the touch, and perfect for a warm, loving embrace.  {VALKYR}Valkyr are known as warriors, most being stocky and physically powerful. Their physical traits are obvious, being one of the only angel types to bear long, slender, pearly white horns, and thick, powerful wings, strong enough to be used as natural shields—even the feathers that grow on the back of their wings are coarser than the average angel. Despite this, they are not the best of flyers, but are known for their powerful leaps and jumps, and even known in battle to dive-bomb their enemies.  {REFRACTAL}These angels are almost entirely made up of light, some looking like humanoid figures made of light or having large patches of light that make up parts of their bodies, be it their heads, hair, limbs or otherwise. While they are the most susceptible to dark and unholy entities, they are incredibly effective against them too, being walking holy presences. Even their blood is pure and magical, having the appearance of liquid sunlight, and even the ability to purify objects— it isn’t uncommon for their blood to be used to enchant weapons or objects, or even used as a weapon itself. They lack wings but are capable of flight, able to make themselves lighter than air.  {CONDUIT}These angels are blessed by the elements of nature, being either holders or manipulators of said elements. These angels are identified by their bright, often multi-colored wings, or wings that hold some form of the element they can use, and often have a halo of said element circling their head. While there are some only blessed with one element, there are others that can copy the elements from their environment and hold several at once.  {AVAITUS} Avaitus Angels have the appearance of Humanoid birds, albeit, always of brighter colors than actual birds and always mimicking birds of prey, however they lack typical bird behavior and taloned feet, having feet that are more human than bird but instead they have talon-like hands. their wings often look more like the bird they take from and they do tend to have crescent-like halos above their heads. They are indeed large in stature, ranging from 6 to 9 feet tall. They are seen as guides, and have a natural sense of direction, and it is speculated they have an inner compass, similar to actual birds.  {RELIC}Relic angels are actually shapeless, formless spiritual entities, which can only take on semi-physical forms once inhabiting an object. They had no definable shape but are known as the ‘oldest’ angels, as they don’t appear to have a lifespan, however they cannot inhabit Objects that were at any point alive (E.g., people, animals and even plants). When they find a vessel however, their presence tends to distort it in some form or fashion, which can sometimes give them an unsettling appearance. It is unknown how they reproduce.  {SEPHYR}Those who descended from powerful spell-casting angels, capable of casting unbreakable seals and barriers. Their defining features are that they are always born with a tutelary, which is a weapon or tool that they can summon at will and channel through, and a blessing—which can be large or small and is indicated by the word of their blessing they are born with, marked somewhere along their body—most commonly their head. The blessing can range from small things—such as never dropping a fragile object, never losing track of any belongings, or always having animals like them, to larger things such as always being able to always avoid a fatal attack or never losing their balance. Their wings are pure white on the inside, but a bright, frosty blue on the outside, and often if they are in the field of magical study, often have magical markings of warding tattooed on the outer parts of their wings.  {CHROMO}Chromo angels are those who can physically wield and bend light to their will and shape it into weapons and physical constructs. Their wings are made of bent and refracted light, giving them a shimmering, rainbow appearance. In dark areas they appear to produce their own light and are natural sources of holy light, and excellent warders of creatures of the dark.  {WISP}Small, fragile types, that have a natural charming allure to them. while they lack a lot of abilities, they are mostly known for their small, cutesy, or even blob like forms. Adults of this type are no larger than an average child. They are identified by their small size, and usually never grow to be over 4 feet tall  {CHERUBIM}Those who see Cherubim angels at first may not understand what they are seeing. Easily the most unsettling and largest of the angel types, Cherubim angels stand no shorter than 12 feet tall and have rather unsettling features. Rather than bearing only one face, they bear either three or four on their head that can turn freely in any direction. The faces they contain will always be one of a man, and three of animals, and they have a pair of arms for each head. Their wings are often gigantic in size, rightfully so as they would have to be big enough to carry their massive bodies. Most Cherubim have opted to wearing four stone masks over their faces and large concealing robes to mask their freighting appearance, while others have taken on a completely animal form, which will always match one of the faces they have and look no different than a regular animal. They are also known to be more ‘animalistic’ than other angels.  {STIGMATA}An Eidolon who was cursed by a powerful primordial, who unknowingly passed it on to their descendants who were forced to carry it on. Angels that carry the curse are defined by several key features: they are never born with white wings, either dusty grey, or black wings that sometimes fade to bright crimson at the ends, giving them the appearance of always having bloodied wings. They also are known to have black markings along their body or small black horns. They can have a combination of any or all three of these that mark them. Rather than having powers of light, they either carry the power of shadows or lack magical potential completely. They are also sensitive to sunlight and must stay out of it, not to the degree that say a vampire would, but it can easily cause them skin burns, fatigue and nausea. While very much still accepted by angel society, they are often given looks of pity and looked down upon as unfortunates. {HOLIES}Angels that hold no real identifying factor outside the recognized few or have a completely unseen and rare factor to them. They are not common but concentrate into the more recent generations of the angel population. It is suspected that if enough hold a congruent and identifiable factor, that a new species could be identified. |
